Artsprojekt

14th Sep 2009 - My work for sale on Artsprojekt

I'm seriously proud to announce that I was recently invited to set up an online store as part of Artsprojekt.com. Artsprojekt provides a means for selected artists to create and sell products featuring their art and design work online, and features work by the likes of Shepard Fairey, Dalek, Mars-1, Jeremyville and Emek. I am, needless to say, totally hyped to be offered this opportunity, and big thanks are due to Rob Greenleaf and Andy Howell at Artsprojekt.

At the moment, I have 2 T-shirt designs and 3 skateboard decks available for sale, and I'll be adding more stuff over the next couple of months. You can check out my store here.

Till Death

31st Aug 2009 - 'Till Death' finally in print

I awoke this morning to the news that 'Till Death', the comic I work on with American writer Brad Huffman-Parent a couple of years back has finally made it into print, thanks to Tin Star Studios.

Looking at it now, the main thing that goes through my mind is 'Damn, my work is way better than that now, I wish I could redraw most of it'... But I'm proud of what we created, and it's really good to see it in print at last.

'Till Death' appears as part of the collection 'Blister' #1 from Tin Star, and you can order it from Indyplanet.

Karhide

24th Aug 2009 - CD packaging for Karhide

Recently finished this CD packaging for Field Records artist Karhide. The design was hand screen printed on Stumptown Printers 'Arigato Pak' recycled card packaging.

I hand printed 240 of these bad boys in one six hour shift... Pretty much wrecked my back and wrists but the results look really good. Click on the image to view the bigger picture.

Ludovician

20th Aug 2009 - Praise for 'Ludovician'

Steven Hall, author of 'The Raw Shark Texts' likes my piece 'Tape Recorder 3 Is Death (Ludovician)' which was inspired by his book, and went as far as to say nice stuff about it on his website - what a thoroughly sound guy.

You can check out what he had to say here.

If you haven't read Steven's book yet, you should.

Gary Numan poster

18th July 2009 - Gary Numan poster

No updates for a while, as I've been taking time out to focus on study and practice work to push my more traditional art skills forward.

That said, I have just finished this poster for Gary Numan, which I'm really pleased with. click on the image to the left to have a look at the full version. Coincidentally, the BBC news website ran a feature about the tour this morning, which you can read here: http://news.bbc.co.uk/1/hi/entertainment/8149452.stm

Also, after much resisting, I am now on Twitter which I'm finding strangely addicive... If you're so inclined you can follow me @matt_diecast

'Ascendant' - Sunrise variant

28th May 2009 - 'Ascendant' watercolour/screen prints

I've just finished work on a very limited run of watercoloured silkscreen prints.

When I was screen printing the linework for the 'Ascendant' canvas, I also ran off three prints of it onto 300gsm rough grain watercolour paper. These prints have now been hand watercoloured, each in an individual colourway - 'Sunrise, 'High Noon' and 'Midnight'.

These prints are for sale; if you're intersted, email matt@diecastdesign.com

You can see the prints in the 'Canvas & Prints' section.

Shell Suit Zombie

19th May 2009 - Feature on ShellSuitZombie

A pleasant start to the day... My work got featured on the very cool art and design magazine site Shell Suit Zombie which was a good accompaniment to my morning cup of tea.

The called me 'old school' for using a Myspace blog, which fucking cracked me up, but is a fair point! I'll get myself a nice dynamic site that can host my own blog one day... One day. They also compared me to Dave McKean and HR Giger, which is a hell of a compliment as far as I'm concerned.

If you aren't aware of Shell Suit Zombie, you should definitely check them out, they cover a lot of great stuff within the realms of art design, fashion, music, photography and more... I've had them on my RSS for a while (ya see, not that old skool) and have picked up on a lot of awesome work through their articles.

Ludovician

05th May 2009 - New work 'Ludovician'

Just finished off a piece of personal work. Entitled 'Tape Recorder 3 is Death (Ludovician)', it was inspired by the 'conceptual shark' from Steven Hall's novel 'the Raw Shark Texts'. While the shark is represented as being formed from text in the book, I always visualized it as more than that, being made out of fractured ideas pulled together and driven forward by some deadly intent. The piece also draws influences from William S.Burroughs book 'Electronic Revolution' with deals with ideas of language and concepts as viral entities.

At the moment the piece remains entirely in digital form, but I'm figuring out how I want to go about producing prints of it at the moment, so more on that soon.

Chapter - album artwork

16th April 2009 - 'Chapter' album artwork

Newly completed is my illustration for the album 'Chapter' by Welsh electronica artist, and former Losing Sun drummer, Jayce Lewis.

This image will wrap around the outer packaging of the CD; although the final format has not been decided yet.

As ever click the image or head to the illustration section to get the bigger picture.

Or, alternatively, check out the bigger version on my blog.

City Relic

11th March 2009 - 'City Relic' T-shirt print

This piece is my submission for ArtsProjekts first 'Labs' competition. I wasn't the winning entry, but got listed in their favourites, which is cool. The design is kinda my reflection on the mythology of cities...

“A city has values as well as slums, excitement as well as conflict, a personality that has not yet been obliterated by its highways and gas stations.” Charles Abrams

Check out the ArtsProjekt site here - www.artsprojekt.com

Sparks artwork

9th Feb 2009 - artwork for Sparks advertising campaign

Just finished art and design work for legendary LA glam/prog weirdos Sparks (and I still have 'This Town Ain't Big Enough For The Both Of Us' stuck in my head). The artwork will be used across all media for the 2 exclusive shows at the London HMV Forum. You can get a good look at it in the 'illustration' section of this site, or on my blog.

10th Sept 2008 - Metal Hammer back cover

Tombs screen print

29th Aug 2008 Tombs poster - screen printed

Just finished a gig poster for the Tombs/Planks/Black Horse/Diet Pills gig at the Old Angel in Notts. I did some screen printed version of this as well, printed in my newly constructed/thrown together screen printing workshop... Hopefully some more hand printed output from there in the near future; many thanks are due to Michael Cowell for his advice on how to construct a screen printing set up using virtually no money at all!

No update for a while, mainly because I've been too busy working... But I've just added 3 new pieces to the 'Illustration' section; posters for Red Sparowes, Converge and Gravetemple. There's a load more going on at the moment, including a tour poster for Keith Caputo, which you can see over on the Myspace blog, and a ton of other stuff that will appear here over the next few weeks.

I currently reek of screen printing ink having just finished silkscreening a run of limited edition sleeves for the latest Field Records split 7", which features tracks from Kill Chaos and Actionier. There's a photo in the 'Graphic Design' section and more over on the Myspace blog.

Older News

14th March 2008

A quick update, as loads of work is going off right now - poster for Japanese noise-core wonders Melt Banana. More soon.

7th March 2008

I wanted to keep quiet about this until everything was confirmed, but now it's all done and about to be out there in the world in print, so I can quickly throw it up exclusively on here... Sorry if I'm waffling, I'm a little over-tired. Anyway - I just finished work on a poster for Killing Joke! It's a fucking honour to be able to provide artwork for a band of this calibre, and fortunately I've managed to come up with something I'm really happy with. It's for the two night's they're playing at The Forum in London - the original line-up reformed for the first time since 1984, playing the first 2 albums plus the 1994 classic 'Pandemonium' in their entirety. Despite being shattered, I'm pretty happy right now! Go check out the poster in the 'Illustration' section.

18th February 2008

So, last Thursday, slightly drunk at a gig I got/volenteered to do a poster for the Cancer Bats, Johnny Truant and Hexes show at the Angel in Nottingham. So Friday morning was spent hungover, working flat out trying to get the poster done before I had to get on a train to Edinburgh halfway through the afternoon... Turned out alright though! See the 'Illustration' section for the full sized version

15th October 2007

Just dawned on me that I haven't posted anything here for sometime... Lots going on, finished the Lost album cover (I'll add this to the site soon), working on illustrating a comic call 'Till Death', a panel of which you can see over to your left... You can find more on all of this by heading over to the blog on the Diecast Design myspace page - www.myspace.com/diecastdesign. It is worth checking out; I post a lot of 'work in progress' kinda stuff on there, so there's a lot more going on, and you get an insight into my haphazard excuse for a 'creative process'. Head on over, add me as a friend... Seriously, do it - it's like joining a cult group, but I'm not gonna make you drink any poison kool-aid or anything like that, we'll just do cool stuff... Maybe chat about music and limited edition sneakers, whatevs...

14th July 2007

More new work added - I got asked to do a poster for The Cribs London show at The Forum in October, kinda last minute, so I had to get it done over the course of one night... Turn out OK though, I think... You can check it out in the 'Graphic Design' section, along with the some other stuff. Currently working on a short comic, amongst other things. You can check out a couple of frames from that over on the DCD myspace blog. Oh, and I case you hadn't noticed I'm in the process of redesigning this site. Lots more stuff in the pipeline (providing I can stay away from the XBox), so y'all come back soon now!

13th June 2007

You know the deal - new stuff up in 'Illustration' and 'Graphic Design' sections... A few record covers and bits... To damn busy to talk really. More soon. Oh and Diecast design now has a Myspace - www.myspace.com/diecastdesign funnily enough; come and be friends.

23rd April 2007

The usual deal, new stuff blah blah blah. On the illustration page there's now a logo I drew for the band Plague, plus a copule of personal work items - a further developed version of the 'Ronin' piece from the Losing Sun album artwork, and a bigger version of the piece you can see to your left presently entitled 'Portrait Of The Artist As A Fiend', with a couple of detail views as well. What else is going on? Well, the Rollersnakes T-shirt came out rather nice, I'll try to get a photo of the finished article up sometime soon (which by my current standards means in about 2 months)... Although you could always check it out or even buy one by clicking here. Got work coming up on a series of 7" single covers for Field Records, but as ever I'm on the look out for more - anyone interested, just drop me a line... Much as corporate work pays the bills, this stuff is way more fun. Oh, and also knocked a quick website together for Birmingham based artist Carp, who is officially badass. Check it out here - www.carp111.co.uk

20th February 2007

Whoa, it's been a while! Been busy, so there's plenty of new work in the 'Illustration' section. I've recently finished album artwork for the band Strain, and a single cover for Civillian, a T-shirt design for skateboard company Rollersnakes and a bunch of personal work... And there's more to come.

13th November 2006

The Down Within CD packaging is all finished and I'm really happy with the results - more of that in the 'Illustration' section. Also knocked up a digitally painted version of the werewolf from the Halloween party flyer, you can check that out in the same place. More work coming up with Nottingham band Splint,

snowboard website Madsoldiers, and loads of random other stuff.

25th October 2006

More new work added - front cover for Down Within's album 'The Heist Begins Here', which has turned out pretty good, plus the Baroness and Torche poster - both of these are in the 'Illustration' section. Got a few more album cover jobs lined up, including one for Japanese band 'Lost'... Should be interesting. Knocked together a flyer for my friends Carl and Amy's Halloween party... I was pretty pleased with it, so it got to grace the front page, as you can see. More soon.

6th September 2006

Update, update, update... Artwork for Lipid and Bohica albums finished(see 'Illustration' & 'Graphic design' sections), currently working on slipcase artwork for the Losing Sun LP (click on the image to the left for more). Baroness/Torche poster is also finished, I'll upload that soon... Hopefully a Kylesa poster to follow that.

18th July 2006

OK then, the Army Of Flying Robots artwork is finished... Ended up doing a T-shirt design as well. Also, after many days painting, the sign for Carlito's Kitchen at the Rescue Rooms is finished - you can check out a photo in the illustration section, or alternatively head down to the Rescue Rooms and see it for real... Be sure to sample some of Carl's damn fine pizza while you're there.

I'm currently working on CD art for Danish band 'Lipid' (Take a look at the image to the left of this page). After that, I should be finally putting the finishing touches to Bohica album cover.

30th June 2006

Currently working on the layout and photography for Army Of Flying Robots forthcoming anthology CD on SuperFi Records... Definitely something I'm happy to be a part of.

29th June 2006

OK, here's the new version of the website, so take a look around... Should be some new work on here soon (well, as soon as I get the time to upload it), so keep checking back.

At the moment I'm putting the finishing touches on the packaging for Losing Sun's forthcoming LP 'Perspective', and also working on album packaging for the band Bohica, a poster for the Baroness and Torche show in Nottingham, and new signage for the kitchen at the Rescue Rooms... Busy, busy, busy.
