Sketchbook: Initial ideas for projects, character designs, concept work and anything that pops into my head really... The point of this section is to illustrate my creative process and to show (and remind me) that although I'm making a living from this, I'm still learning and trying to moving things forward. Skull-chicken - I just wanted to draw something with really skinny legs.
Quickly coloured version. I think I got the light from the candle down pretty well.
'Thug Droid' - I wanted this to have elements of a victorian circus strong man to it.
Here it is coloured and shaded.
Mecha-prawn. The structure of crustaceans fascinates me.
And here it is in it's natural environment!

Panels from comic 'Atomic Ape':
Panel 1 sketch.

Panel 2 sketch
Coloured version
'Hawkman' - 5 minute sketch, straight into Photoshop. Mostly trying to get the gold armour idea to come across.
'Horned God' - Trying to get some of the more abstract form ideas from my digital illustration work into my sketching.
'Sqwark!' - These things just seem to pop into my head...
Snow scene - I tend to draw characters a lot more than environments, so I thought I should push myself to do some. Something I need to focus on in future I think. I've left the images quite big so you can see the details.

Coloured and shaded version:
'Happy' - My girlfriend challenged me to 'draw something upbeat and fun for a change!'

I was fairly pleased with the result, so I added some colour quickly.

Sketch for one of the panels from the comic 'Till Death'

And here's how the finished panel looks:
I was sitting in front of the TV, sketching my cat and... Well, he's a classy fella, so he ended up morphing into some kind of rat-pack singer:
Eep! - Practice at drawing hands is always worthwhile.

Jumpman - Too much time staring at my own sneakers.
'Benched' - Just playing around with perspective, point of view and character positioning.
'Girl On The Building' - The start of an idea for a t-shirt print; I needed to mess around to get the point of view right... I also couldn't decide what she should be throwing, so it's flowers for now.
'Crystal Quadruped' - Sketch and coloured version
Initial sketch for the Killing Joke at Heaven poster
And, of course, the finished version.
'Lift-Off At Sunrise' - Too often I default to drawing robots, but it's fun... Quickly coloured in Photoshop with an eye to creating a misty feel.

I often use 3CH's 'random theme generator' (http://www.redwhirlpool.com/3CH/3ch_web.php) to set myself drawing challenges... The other day it hit me with 'A merry penguin burns skeletons on the roofs of a city'. Who am I to argue?

Female face sketches. From scratch, rather than life drawing, so excuse the imperfections.

Octa-Eagle-Eyeball-Deathray-Plane... Yeah baby!
Deathball wants to be your friend.
'Devil Toy' - Sketched on the train home from London after the Huck Gee show in Brick Lane.

With a bit of colour and texture...
